PLASTIC BAGS – REFUSE OR REUSE

I use canvas bags for my groceries, mesh bags that fit in my purse for incidentals and a basket for the farmer’s market. But try as I might to avoid using plastic bags, every once in a while one sneaks into my home. Most of these I’m fortunate to be able to return to my local grocery store for recycling.

The few that do remain in my home get a second life as packing material, waste basket liners or a lunch bag for my husband that he brings home and uses again and again.

Alternatives to the plastic bag
Re-useable cotton/canvas bags
Non-chlorinated PEVA vinyl container for lunch or snacks
Original kitty litter bag for used litter
Newspaper to pick up after a dog
Tip: Fold and slide a newspaper under the dog when it squats to do its business and then fold the paper around it and dispose
Baskets or cardboard boxes for produce at the grocery store or farmer’s market
Baskets to carry food to picnics or when bringing a food dish to friends or family
Biodegradable trash can liners
Mesh bag to keep in your purse for unplanned purchases

Storage for items like scarves, gloves or hats - hang them on hooks in your closet
